Driving Car without blowing horn

I have been driving my car without the use of horn for the last 45 days.

Had I read this sentence about a year back, I would have denied it to be a reality, discarding it as a dream. But, today it is true. I have always been having this thought as a wish, a desire. But, it took a whole lot of determination to realise this. At some moments during these 45 days, a thought came, ‘ How will this help me alone doing it ?’, but I managed to win over it & continue. I feel a sense of satisfaction today, as I write this blog, of having accomplished something unique & different. In fact, an idea rolled down my mind now… why not I aim to be into Guiness Book of World Records for this activity…

Although a very small act, this means a lot, if we look at it from a social perspective. For people living in India, this would appeal : how would it be if the entire traffic on the road is managed without anybody blowing the horn of his/her vehicle ? It is an unimaginable situation – somebody could term it as a fairy tale…but I would say that it is not an impossible task ! It will definitely take tons of efforts to make it possible, but we have to start. Most of us do not make a serious effort to achieve worthwhile objectives like these, because we assume we can’t reach them.

Let’s discuss how ? What are the different moments for conking horn on the road :

  • Red signal goes green – Is it required to horn ? Is it that there are some people ahead of us, who intend to stay back on road & not move forward ? No. So, this can be completely avoided
  • Car with “L” tag in front of us – The driver is learning, so can be excused for being slow. So, this can also be completely avoided.
  • Wrong lane – Many a times, the vehicle in front of us is in the wrong lane, & hence has to be alerted by conking a horn, that he is blocking our way. The solution lies, in just following lane discipline, so that this situation can be prevented.

If there are instances other than the above, let’s do something so that the horn when conked, utters the words “Go Green” instead of an irritating sound.

Let’s go that extra mile & make this possible !

C.K.Prahlad.. a legacy

I happened to watch the chat on the popular CNBC TV18 show “Lessons in Excellence”, where CK Prahlad (CKP) was the guest. Incidentally, the topic he was talking was “Co-creation” which has been one my interesting topics, something which I follow, when I work with my customers. CKP has very aptly put this concept of “Co-creation” substantiating it with an apt example of “Apple” who has been very successful with its products I-phone as I-pod, throwing open to its customers a whole new world of excitement, that in turn means business for the company. CKP mentions this concept to be having risk reduction as well as time reduction accumen. In his thought, he has addressed the subject of Innovation as a tool for consistent evolution, which is quite true in context of the present day business environment. In domestic context (India), IPL is a good example of it. And, so is the DTH. Both these businesses have come from nowhere to everywhere.  It is technology which should drive the innovation bandwagon – this makes the business sustainable & profitable. The market place itself is evolving over the years – the consumer (customer) has become more knowledgable and familiar, which in turn has given him wider exposure. There have been multiple benchmarks for him to compare every product / service that comes into the market through this innovation channel.

CKP has been an inspiring management guru, who has been able to give a very good direction to the global business community.  A sincere tribute to this world authority on management thinking.
